Iwa Sushi

My boyfriend and I went out to Iwa Sushi in Inver Grove Heights because we always see a bunch of cars parked by that restaurant. Generally that means the food must be ok. So I researched online to see what the ratings were, and on a few different review platforms it was rated over 4 stars. So we went today with high hopes only to have them crushed. We will not be going back. We actually prefer Tokyo Sushi, an all you can eat sushi restaurant also located in Inver Grove Heights.

Happy Hour Menu
Our Rating:⭐⭐⭐
The drink menu was very short and the sushi menu was just ok.

Gyoza
Our Rating:⭐⭐⭐⭐
We liked the gyoza but it is very similar to all the other gyoza we have had before. Nothing about this was super unique. But it was cooked ok and tasted good.

Shu Mai
Our Rating: ⭐⭐
It felt like it was a bit over cooked. It kind of had the texture of rice noodle that's been sitting in water too long. And also the inside had a bit of a graining/sandy texture. I dont remember shu mai having that texture before.

Shrimp and Veggie Tempura
Our Rating:⭐⭐⭐
When it first came out it was crispy but oily. But as it sat for a few minutes longer while we were eating it, it became doughy and oily.

Sushi
Our Rating: 2.5 ⭐
The sushi was generally flavorless and lacked a mixture of ingredients that would bring other flavors out. The one roll that had a bunch of things on it looked pretty but was missing a crunch from something like a cucumber. The rice must have been fresh and hadn't been cooled off all the way because the cucumbers inside the dragon roll was warm and had lost its crispy texture. Also you couldn't tell which one was the spicy tuna and which one was the spicy salmon. Normally because of the flavor difference of the two fish I can taste a slight difference but I couldn't tell them apparent this time.
